Read to Race
The Reading Contest Awards Assembly was on Wednesday, March 2nd. Medals were award to the top 143 readers. A bronze medal was awarded for 1,000 minutes read. Silver medals went to students who read 1,400 minutes and gold medals were given to students who read 1,800 minutes. Thirty-seven students read over 2,200 minutes. These super readers enjoyed lunch in the library in addition to their gold medals.
The class with the highest average number of minutes of 1,325 per student was Ms. Dettmann’s class. The second highest average with 1,227 minutes per student was Mrs. McDonough/Boersma’s class. The third highest average of 1,183 minutes per student was Mr. Matzek’s class. A total of 453 students participated in the contest which is 80% of the student population of Malone. The total minutes read by the entire school was 410,516 minutes which was below the goal of 428,000 minutes that was set for the contest this year. The goal will stay the same for next year along with the amount of minutes needed to obtain each of the medals. The students have been promised the opportunity to slime the principal if they make their goal in 2017. Read to Race |
